The Nyiyaparli People are the traditional owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region, including the township of Newman, Western Australia.
Nyiyaparli country is located to the south of the town of Marble Bar and includes the area around the town of Newman and the pastoral stations of Roy Hill, Balfour Downs, Ethel Creek and others.
Rio Tinto, FMG, Roy Hill and BHP all operate mines on Nyiyaparli country.
Occupation of Nyiyaparli land by its Traditional Owners can be verified to at least 41,000 years, being the second oldest on record in Australia. In September 2018, the Nyiyaparli people were awarded Native Title determination.
